new dot removal rule
As of today, there’s a new dot removal rule. It’s currently only used in two cross-references, e.g. acronym↹blah blah (cf. .fr)
to refer to the France TLD (whose acronym column reads FR
), but user input should be normalised the same way.
The dot removal rule used to read:
If, after upper-casing, the query matches
[A-Z]\.
, then all dots.
are removed from the query string.
The new dot removal rule reads:
If, after upper-casing, the query matches
[A-Z]\.
, or if the query begins with a dot.
and is not comprised solely of dots and dashes-
, then all dots.
are removed from the query string.
Match regexps for this are: [A-Z]\.
and ^\..*[^.-]
